On May 10, at the Warsaw office of the Polish Armaments Group, the representative of Huta Stalowa Wola – commercial director Grzegorz Szydło, and the vice-president of Hanwha Aerospace, Boo Hwan Lee, signed a letter of intent which will constitute the basis for further expansion of the areas of cooperation between Polish and Korean industries.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets Marcin Kulasek, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of DAPA Hyunka Cho and President of the Management Board of PGZ S.A. Krzysztof Trofiniak. The signed letter of intent specifies the scope of cooperation between Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. and Hanwha Aerospace in the area of export to third countries of components used in both the Polish self-propelled howitzer KRAB produced by Huta Stalowa Wola and the Korean K9 self-propelled howitzer produced by Hanwha Aerospace.
The chassis of the Polish Krab and the Korean K9 howitzer have the same origins. Moreover, the concluded agreement provides for cooperation in the assessment by the Polish and Korean manufacturers of the possibility of using the Polish Krab chassis for the Korean K9A2 and K9A3 self-propelled howitzers. In HSW S.A. the Korean chassis was successfully adapted to the Polish KRAB turret system in the past. The letter of intent also constitutes the basis for developing further cooperation initiatives between Huta Stalowa Wola and Hanwha Aerospace regarding the transfer of repair technology for the K9 main self-propelled howitzers, which is currently part of the equipment of the Polish army.
The concluded agreement extends the scope of cooperation between Huta Stalowa Wola and Hanwha Aerospace in the production of the Homar-K launcher including the transfer of launcher technology, its further polonization, as well as its adaptation to the use of 122 mm unguided missiles.
